Registration & Initial Steps
After you register, you will receive a client survey with a series of questions about your website wants and needs. A Knowbility staff member will review your answers to the survey and contact you to offer guidance, support, and to ask additional questions if needed. Your Knowbility contact person will be available by phone, email, or video conference depending on your preference. The goal of early participation is to ensure you are prepared for the OpenAIR competition which begins in early February.
You will be billed by Knowbility in December for the $100 OpenAir registration fee.
Team Assignment & Design Process
At the start of February 2018, after working with Knowbility to make sure you have all of your website content ready to go, you will be matched with your design team. Your team will have access to your client survey answers and will use this and your current web site text, photos, graphics, etc., as well as additional information you provide, for your new website. OR, if you don’t yet have a site, they will use your client survey answers and the text, photos, graphics and additional information you provide to develop your website.
You will decide with your design team how often you want to talk during OpenAIR. Weekly? Bi-weekly? It’s up to you and your design team. Together, you will decide how best to work together. But, Knowbility staff will always be available to help with any issues you might have!
At the end of 5 weeks, OpenAIR design teams submit the work to the Knowbility panel of judges made up of accessibility experts from around the country. The winning project announcement is in March 2018.
Upon your approval (and only then!), your new website will go live. Your site will launch when and where (which URL, either existing or new) you decide. Knowbility staff will work with you to make sure this transition is as smooth as possible. If you do not already have a web host or a domain name (URL or web address), Knowbility will provide you with information on how to do that. [Ed. note: Removed info about $100 expected cost for domain registration and hosting – we are offering hosting for first year and domains cost about $25 or less per year]
Updates to Your Site
Your resulting website via OpenAIR will be something you will be able to change anytime. You will not need to contact your design team to add pages, add text, remove pages, etc. Your website is YOURS, and you have complete control over it.
And, that’s it! We’ve made this process as simple as possible and built in plenty of time for your nonprofit, NGO, or charity to participate. The sooner you sign up, the more time you will have to prepare for the competition in February 2018!
